I think it interprets the old-style smushmodes differently. In any case,
none of the current smushmodes work well with the FJL style, it really
needs a custom smush table. (Maybe I'll have time to code all that now
during the summer..) For now, just kerning should be best. So replace
the first line:

flf2a$ 7 6 20 15 13

with this corrected line:

flf2a$ 7 6 20 0 13 64 0 0

The last three numbers specify new smushmode, print direction and number
of extended characters.
