: There are a couple of things I have to say about all this.

: 1) Requests are part of the life blood of alt.ascii-art! How often
: has someone posted a request which has caused a new pic to be created,
: an old pic to be altered or unseen pics to be released? Sure Bob could
: reply to requests posted on the net but that wouldn't get the same
: variety of results. Personally I like to see requests and more
: particularily their followups being posted to the group.

No one except the anti-r.a-a has said that ALL requests will be
redirected. Only those which DO bog down the group: I.e. I Love You
art, birthday art, holiday art in general, calvin and hobbes, women, star
trek, and so on and on. Stuff we see asked for once a day, which has no
one creating new stuff, but everyone uploading old stuff.

If the moderater is wise, he will let SOME of the requests go through.
That way, fledgeling artists who don't KNOW about all the old stuff might
make something new.

: 2) Sure some pictures get posted often enough to make people well
: and truly sick of them. That's because they are spectacular art. We
: don't _HAVE_ to look at them each time they show up!

It's the old-stuff-reposts that I mentioned a second ago that would be
cut back.

Hmmm... Maybe I should clarify myself. I want things cut back, not
eliminated. The bush needs to be trimmed, not uprooted. If Scarecrow
intends to just remove anything off-topic without discretion, then of
course I'm against him. Scarecrow, speak up. :)

: 3) What good does sending out a FAQ do? If it's to point you
: towards ftp sites, not everyone has ftp priviledges. If it's to tell
: you how to draw them yourself, not everyone has the talent!

There are standard sets of art out there. When someone requests birthday
art, that person will likely receive a huge file stuffed with various
birthday art. When I requested ascii-women, I received e-mail from
several people that had 5-10 women apiece. I sent each post to the other
people, so that everyone else can get a fuller collection.

Which is another reason that some requests should get through.

: ++++++ In fact I voted YES but now I'm not so sure. Does anyone know
: the procedure for changing your vote?

Just vote again, I believe.

Well, now that I think about it, maybe we don't need moderation. I know
we need a r.a-a, but as for moderation..... As long as it's very LIGHT.

I've upped *my* standards. Up yours.
