picture -> ascii converter wanted

Hi all...
Do you know where I can get a converter program to read my images and make
ASCII art from them?  I found one called asciipic 2.0, but it's not as good
as I hoped.  (Doesn't seem to use enough different characters to provide
different tones.)  I've seen some others mentioned, but was hoping I'd get
a good recommendation here, so I wouldn't have to experiment as much on my
own.  Here's what I'm looking for:

* Read a variety of image formats:  GIF, JPG, etc.
* Variable scaling so my ASCII doesn't come out huuuuge.  It would be great
if I could specify a % of original, or a fixed size for the output (80
columns).
* Adjustable brightness/contrast is important.
* Does a good job of representing tones with different characters.  There
are a ~100 characters to use, it would be nice to have ~100 levels.
* Macintosh preferred, but I can deal with Windows too.
* Anything else I should be looking for but forgot to mention.
