Here's _exactly_ what I did:

Click Tools/Options.
Click the Read tab.
Click the Fonts button.
Select Western from the list.
Select a fixed-width font from the top two list boxes. Common FW fonts
are Courier, Courier New, Lucida Console and monotype.com ...
Select Smallest from the third listbox.

You may have to repeat for other charsets (selections in the top
listbox) ...
