yes. at least the disks i used to get said 'if you need mac format call...'

doesn't matter if it's a different font or not. all 'arial font' are not
created equal. --ever made a nice column of data/text by indenting
everything, say, 5 spaces in? you print it out and the col. are all jagged?
that's because the computer and printer don't agree on the details of
the font, like for one an A is 1.4 times as wide as a B, but for the
other it's 1.41 and spacing gets changed. (in many [most?] prop. fonts
the *spaces* change size even depending on what their next to [actually,
this) this has improved, but is still *far* from perfect.

i've even had a nicely formatted bit of text and you change the size of
the same font and it gets all messed up (try it!) (and i don't
mean line wrap either --stuff that only goes 1/2 way across the page. nor
any particular platform. [ug! obsidion sharp! oog! break too easy! flint
*hard*!]).

and of course prop. fonts are a half-way step anyway. something like tex*
that knows about kerning etc. is (can be anyway) a huge improvement for
the looks of a document (lessen, a course it's an ascii-art pic!)

*the only such program i know by name that does this, but this shows
clewlessness on my part, not a lack of such programs. i know there are
others.

and just so there's some ascii art here can anybody id the artist on this
garfield?
