I wonder that myself when I saw the early rendition.
It's based on the work I did 3-4 years ago -posted here :
http://groups-beta.google.com/group/alt.ascii-art/browse_thread/thread/e866e8dc614c12c4/76c576badebd2703?q=swan+ceejay&rnum=3#76c576badebd2703

Wow long URL .. maybe this is better :
http://tinyurl.com/8opcf

I think it was because I was going for a look like the first type of writing I learned in
school , a form that's called "Formskrift" in danish.

That and the form above reminded me of breasts .. which when I think of it now, might be
desireable for some.

Still now that you've brought it up I will try to rediddle it , as I'm not entirely happy
with it.
I'm also not happy with the large width of the A , V and W chars - I tried to go for a
monospaced figfont as a font made with ascii-art that can be used to make even bigger
ascii art is way cool IMO.
But they could not be shrunk further without ruining their look.

Overall I have tried to go with a smooth , easily readable font that like "formskrift"
caan be written (almost) without lifting the pen.
That's why it's 0.9 and not 1.0 .. all the chars need to fit perfectly together to achive
that look .. and getting that to work isn't easy.

There are [number of chars]^2 possible combinations.

BTW I could do this with the W

  . .

/\
/ \
  ' '

But somehow it doesn't have the right feel to it.

I see your point .. the S curves so much it almost connects again to form an 8
How is this (P.S. I still haven't found my posting flaw .. this may come out garbled)

  .-.
( `
  `-.
. )
  `-' S

BTW I see great potential for patterns here .. example :
     .-.
  .-( )-.
( ) ( )
  ) ( ) (
( )-( )
  `-' `-'

Once I get my posting to work correctly I'll showcase some of the alternative versions of
various chars for feedback
