I think our political system is more dynamic than some of our southern neighbours' (I mention no names). For example the Progressive Conservative party which dominated the governments of the 1980s has lost so much support that they are essentially no more, whereas new upstart parties like the Reform Party can very quickly rise to the level of official opposition.
