Hello, and welcome to our ASCII art news group. This group was created to
serve the community of ASCII art fans and artists.
You are invited to post your articles on any topic concerning ASCII
art, including:
o All forms of ASCII art, like:
- Standard ASCII art (line art, GIF conversions, 3-D pics, etc).
- Non-standard ASCII art (animations, color pics, color animations).
o Discussion about pieces of art.
o Requests for specific pieces of art.
o Answering requests.
o Community effort at reworking a piece.
o Questions and answers covering:
- Creating and viewing ASCII art.
- Locating FTP sites for ASCII art and related files.
o Discussion about artists in the field.
To make it easier for everybody, please put one of the following Subject
IDs at the beginning of the subject line of your post:
Line - Standard ASCII line art. Line pictures and large lettering.
GIF - Gray scale image.
Big - Wider than 80 columns (and optionally, longer than 24 lines).
Animation - Animation. Usually uuencoded.
Color - Color. Usually uuencoded.
3-D - 3-D art.
Request - Request for a certain picture or type of picture.
Repost - Repost of a previously posted pic.
Talk - Discussion, no pics included.
Binary - Binaries (software like Figlet and Gifscii). Usually uuencoded.
If you are following up a post, please change the Subject ID to reflect the
contents of the post. This way if you are fulfilling a request, change:
Request: Marilyn Monroe
TO
GIF: Marilyn Monroe
This allows the readers the option of reading the group in a newsreader's
selector, sorted by articles. They can then read only what is of interest to
them, trusting the IDs to accurately identify the contents. Some people do
not have the time (or money if they are paying by the hour or byte) to read
everything in every group they like.
If you have any questions, the FAQ will be posted shortly. It is posted
here every Monday. Here are the questions answered in the FAQ:

The creation of this group was the result of the work, advice, criticism,
voting, and good wishes of many people, including:
GREGORY GULIK NORMAND VEILLEUX ROWAN CRAWFORD MATT MESSINA
STEVEN M SULLIVAN RON DIPPOLD DORIS JOHNSTON DAVID C LAWRENCE
CHRISTOPHER KING PHIL BIRD CYBERFOX DAVID VRONA MIKE JITTLOV
PATRICK A. TOWNSON JUDY ANDERSON IAN CHAI CYBERSPACE BUDDHA DAVE CORNEJO
BILL PFEIFFER PAUL FAWCETT MEINDERT DE JONG JORN BARGER HOWARD ZIVOTOFSKY

And especially Gregory Gulik and David Vrona from WorldWide Access, for
providing a home for rec.arts.ascii and the Scarecrow's FTP site.
This group is mainstream (with pictures everyone can enjoy), and
specialized (it is also about artists and how they work), and technical
at times (aspect ratios, fonts, using software to make and view ASCII art).
As for moderation of this group, it is very loose. I don't do much but
check that posts are on-topic, and that the Subject ID relfects the contents
of the post. I redirect posters of off-topic articles, and end flame wars by
redirecting the flamers. And I don't use moderator's notes.
Thank you for subscribing to rec.arts.ascii, I hope you enjoy it!
