TALK - Let's start a Flag Project

Richard Kirk's superb UK flag got me thinking that we ought to start
a concerted effort to do national flags with a common palette and in
standard sizes, much like the Ascii Atlas.  

Thoughts:

1) We need to standardize colors.  Kirk's flag gives us 

  ... = red

  888 = white

  ::: = blue

  Let's find some others.

2) All flags are not similarly proportioned!  I think the UK flag is 3x5,
   while the US flag is 2 x 3 (I think).  I am going to look up a book on
   flag proportions and get them posted so we can have officially sized
   ASCIIs.

3) It would be best if the flags were done by people from the country which
   the flag represents.  National pride and all that, you know.  I hereby
   claim the US flag as my first assignment.

4) Many national flags are available to Mac users as PICT files at 
   mac.archive.umich.edu in /graphics/draw.  

5) I'd like to have "positive" and "negative" images of all flags, too.
