If you're using emacs hit ^Q then tye three digits in octal. So 

255 (octal 377 ^Q377) �
160 (octal 240 ^Q240) �

To work out what someting is in octal (if you find it hard to do in
your head, start gdb and type "p/o <num>". There are hundreds more
ways to do it in emacs probably, but that's what I do. The question
with 8859/1 extension characters is "Yes it's art, but is it ASCII?" :)
