I've changed every lay-out preference in the windows control panel. So right now i'm looking at a totally screwed up screen. ;) And you're right: THE ONLY THING THAT HASN'T CHANGED IS THE FONT INSIDE THE SCROLL BOX. Really, this is not a joke. Other java features, like the alert and the text running along the scrolline are affected. As far as i can tell "ours" is the only feature which is left unharmed by the adjustments made in the os. Even the size of the scroll bar and the background colour in the text box are different. (So when you wanna look at the animation against a yellow background - here's the answer ;) OK playtime is over, let's put the windows interface back to normal. OH NO, WHERE'S THE DEFAULT BUTTON????? >2. setting all browser fonts to a fixed one In netscape the text inside the scroll boxes can be changed by changing the fixed font face. It's not possible to select a proportional font though. >3. using <pre> or <tt> >4. using <font face='fixedfont'> Right, HTML has got nothing to do with it. >At least, I cannot. Have you tried my BIG stupid idea? :) Think i'm gonna re-install windows (not 95, 3.11 of course :)) >I've still got a faint hope but I'm fed up with >MS once again. :( I'm not an expert - i don't know exactly what you mean by saying "It's not a bug, it's a feature" - but if your definition of a feature is "a fixed preference" i think you're absolutely right. The question remains: is this intentional or by accident? A bug i can think of: the browser tells the javascript two different things. 1) Get your font in the fixed font preference 2) Get your font in the desktop preference. The problem is "fixed" by a trouble-shooting msie programmer by adding the line: "if not use the windows 95 desktop default font. (For there is no default button maybe it better be called the "original" font :( But worse than me being a non-programmer is not having enough test results to support this silly hypothesis. --------->8 David Reilly and David Bird. Are you still listening? You both posted MSIE3 on windows 3.11 used a fixed font. Can you figure out which preference it's connected with (in the browser or in the os)? Many thanks, mic >>Take one of the ff out to respond to proper email address<<
