'elm' page advances are stopped by (a) the bottom of the screen 
                                   (b) the bottom of the message
                                or (c) a ^L character.
It clears the screen before writing the next page.  If you held down the
<return> (or whatever it was - it's a while since I used elm) then you
ought to get the animation one frame at a time.

This is neat because the user can feed the frames at the rate they want
to see them. Sadly - it doesn't work for all newsreaders or terminals.

If you have something more cunning then that, please let us know!

N.B. 'emacs' is useful for seeing the hidden characters in a posting.
     I hope you saved it!
