A few comments, now that the discussions in this interesting thread has tapered off (I did not want to talk into the discussions) On the lawyer 'stein cartoons, I have not (yet) made any myself, these cartoons must have been done by one of my many emulators. On the Birdstein ascii pic, and that someone may have created it before me, that is a rather vague guess. Birdstein is really a human body with so little details that it looks like a bird. Examples include: Birdstein recoils like a human body does. Birdstein's posture is essentially vertical like a human body, Birdstein's posture is not essentially horizontal, like a bird's body. Birdstein holds a stick like a human hand, i.e. the "wing" is really a hand without fingers and without (articulated) arms. Birdstein likes to put on a hat or Viking horns. Male Birdsteins have a penis. Female Birdsteins have breasts. Birds have neither penis nor breasts. Birdstein sleeps in a human posture, see for example "The Nap" below which is a very early 'stein cartoon. Birdstein does not sleep in a bird's posture. Etc etc 01WWWWWW10WWWWWWWW20WWWWWWWW30WWWWWWWW40WWWWWWWW50WWWWWWWW60W63 02 02 03 Frogstein and Birdstein, The Nap 03 04 by Pete Casso 970112 04 05 05 06 There is nothing better than a nap after lunch ... 06 07 / 07 08 _ To each his own ... 08 09 ( "> / 09 10 (><) .oo 10 11 ^^ ( -)oo 11 12 "( -) 12 13 " " 13 14WWWWWW10WWWWWWWW20WWWWWWWW30WWWWWWWW40WWWWWWWW50WWWWWWWW60W63 It would not be difficult to delete Birdstein from the cast of the 'steins altogether and replace it, say, with Devilstein. But I won't do that, i.e. I will keep Birdstein (the basic pic as well as the many variations) in the cast of the 'steins since the ownership issue is non-existent. While I am at it, I might as well add, that I wanted the most simple ascii graphics that are capable of facial expressions (e.g. Frogstein) and capable of body language (e.g. Birdstein) The other 'stein pics satisfy special needs, such as Pegastein which is Frogstein with (relatively) large wings. I have created more than two dozen 'stein characters over time, but prefer to stick to about a half dozen of them for simplicity and recognizability reasons. This is no different from other cartoons that you see in newspapers and the like. They too use very simple graphics rather than Leonardo da Vinci's paintings and use only a small cast rather than the gigantic cast of a Shakespearean play. Not a single evidence contrary to my claim of being the sole creator of the 'steins has been submitted to the "Call for evidence" thread. I will post a "Forever hold your peace" and a little amusing story right after this. ================================================================ [] [] [] /( )\ Visit the Gallery of the 'steins!
