I have a NEdit macro (NEdit being my text editor) which does exactly the same thing -- it goes like this: replace_all("[ \t]*\n", "\n", "regex") That is, replace all occurences of a space (or a tab) followed by a carriage return, with just the carriage return. I suspect that is considerably shorter than TRIM.COM (although the version I have actually pops up a little box telling me how many spaces it got rid of). No doubt people with editors capable of handling regular expressions (Emacs et al) will be able to provide their translations of this macro ... -- .._o Matthew Thomas (mpt26 @ student . canterbury . ac . nz) ..://\/ http://cantua.canterbury.ac.nz/~mpt26/ (Site for sore eyes) ..:_/\ ASCII ART FAQ: http://cantua.canterbury.ac.nz/~mpt26/art/ascii/ ..:/ Linux.
