: : Sleipner is the name of the horse belonging to Odin, the chief of the
: : Old Nordic Gods (during the Viking Age). According to the myth,
: : Sleipner had eight legs.
: :
: : The nordic gods (Odin, Thor, Froya, and the rest) are vell know in
: : Norway (my home country), Sweeden (Veronica) and probably also in
: : Denmark (CeeJay).
: Definately !
: : I even thought you finnish guys knew them, but it
: : seems I'm wrong here.
: Sleipner is not the best known .. most people have heard of Thor , the god of
: thunder and his magic hammer Mjlner , maybe also of Odin and of the rainbow
: bridge to Valhal .. but Sleipner is not known to many.

Indeed, it's not the best known aspect of Odinism in Finland. I have just
been doing some studies of our own viking age culture, and it's rather
interesting to see how we had our own variant of the religion, just more
animistic.
We had Ukko (old man), the god of thunder leading the pantheon for
instance. Basically the same stuff, but somewhat simplified.
We would have kept our thunder and nature worshipping ways too, if you
pure-Viking Odinist types wouldn't have let yourselves be turned to
christians, and then come over to convert the Clans of Suomi by the sword.
:D
(ok, it was mostly the Swedes, and they came to stay)
