Linewrap Report

I have finalized the Linewrap Report that I posted on my website:

I tried to post the entire report on alt.ascii-art through aol, but I
could not do that, I received error messages, presumably because the
report is too large. I have therefore attached below only the Foreword and
the Summary of the report. I welcome discussions, but I would like to
respond only to those issues that have not been addressed in the
(considerable) rest of the report.

Thanks to all who responded, and a special thanks to all those who signed

Foreword
--------
The report is structured into three chapters: Summary, Overview, and
Details. If you are only interested in the key finding, you can stop
reading right after the Summary. If you are interested in some of the info
surrounding the key finding, you can read the Overview and stop right
there, unless you are interested in the Details.

Comments received may be incorporated into an updated version of the
report.

1. Summary
----------
A linewrap survey was conducted for the transmission of ascii art over the
Internet using commonly used hardware and software left at their default
settings.

The key finding is that 73 characters per line is a safe width, 74
characters per line leads to linewrap in 2 out of 53 cases. These couple
of linewrap cases may have greater significance than their numbers may
suggest, since they are caused by a popular mail client (Microsoft
Internet Mail).
