My aunty had a crystal ball that looked like that. She also had a 
numbered sheet of horoscopes.  So you rolled the crystal ball and
the number which appeared on the top face of the ball was your 
horoscope.

Perhaps a modern version of the Crystal Ball could be used with a 
numbered sheet of soccer match scores that could be used to fill in 
the weekly British Football Pools ?  :-)
