However, he is right. If we can imagine a 2 colour GIF file (black & White), we instantly save 700 bytes on the global colour table, and then the image descriptor block would be very small as it is simply encoding long stretches of black or white. Admittadly, lots of interchanging between black and white with obscure lengths will reduce compression, but it will still be less than a GIF with a 3 x 256 byte colour table. Any image which has less colours will be smaller than it's counterpart, for the simple reason it is using less bits per pixel than a colour one. Monochrome is simply 1 bit per pixel, and then 2,4... etc for colours. Considering the ASCII Art posted in to this group is monochrome, I can see a considerable size difference in the resulting GIF file. Soz, just my 2p :) -- . be...@flag.demon.co.uk / www.flag.demon.co.uk Moo-Juice on IRC. ___ . : _~#~_ '#####` : 'o o` #include <sys/nearptr.h> void main(){__djgpp_ |o o| : ::| | || nearptr_enable();char *v=(char*)(__djgpp_conv | | |:: :: || entional_base+0xb8000);v[0]='M';v[1]=15;v[2]= | :: |==- /| 'o';v[3]=15;v[4]='o';v[5]=15;v[6]='!';v[7]=15 \ -== | | | | ;__djgpp_nearptr_disable();}; | | -oOOo---oOOo---The---Adventures---Of---Poke---And---Moo---oOOo-oOOo--
