 I know what you mean -- I think he is trying to show that she
 has large dark eyes and long lower lashes.  But the "((" for
 the eyes is over-emphatic;  it looks like she has HUGE stary
 eyes with pupils dilated from dropping about five tabs of E.

 It makes the eye-shape seem rounded, the iris big in the eye,
 and the pupil big in the iris... like those cartoons where a
 character is drawn with a spiral in the eye to indicate they
 are completely zonked. "<(o)>" would be better.
