Welcome To Unix
Computing and Telecommunication Services
You are now logged in to your new "yp" UNIX account. You can access the
systems Papaldin, Alpha, and Discover with this account. These systems can
be reached from any of the Sun workstations in the ACR X Window lab
(room 016 Library Annex), the X-terminals in 152 Russ Center, and the
DEC Digital Graphics terminals in 042 Library annex.
This account gives you access to many more machines and applications.
Your login shell on all the systems is the tcsh shell.
Your email address should be "use...@discover.wright.edu", where
username is your username that you used to login on the system.
**********************************************************************
Use the "yppasswd" command to change your initial password. Changing
your initial password to a new one is a MUST. When choosing a new
password, make sure you include at least three non-alpha characters
in it - non-alpha characters such as numbers and punctution characters
($,^,&,#) -
In the X Window lab, if you login to any of the Sun workstations, or login
to discover from one of the X terminal devices, you should be placed
immediately in the X Windows environment with the Open Look user
interface. Stop in the lab in room 016LX and try it out.
IMPORTANT: If you are a novice user and not familiar that much with
Unix, DO NOT try to change anything in the ".login" and ".cshrc" files.
These files are used to properly log you on the system and to reflect the
system wide changes that are added to the system at any time.
For more information on what is available on the system, type "announce"
at the command line, or select the "On Line Info" from the X-window main
menu.
For a complete list of all the available software and utilities on the
system type "softlist" on the command line.
NOTE : Use Ctrl-C to cancel and quit your commands. DO NOT use Ctrl-Z .
Ctl-Z will not kill your commands, it will suspend them and they
can be resumed later.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
NOTE-1 : For students only
Playing games on the systems and running applications that have nothing
to do with school work is absolutely forbidden.
The following applications shall not run on the systems Discover and

and any other application that is identified as a non-school or

Failing to do so will trigger in a disciplinary action which may result
in the loss of this account on CaTS UNIX systems.
