     I have no idea what you are talking about. Do you happen to have a graphic
example of what you did (counting the crosses in the Excel sheet) on a web page
somewhere? That might help a little. 
     But from what you've said about placing the ASCII into spreadsheets, I
can't imagine how difficult that would be. All you would have to do is re-enter
the picture by hand one symbol at a time, it can't be THAT time-consuming, can
it? I use spreadsheets all the time, you can make all of the cells uniformly
shaped very easily, and copying and pasting the ASCII letters one at a time
would be easy too.
