I am not sure that everyone agrees with the change to medium. Large ascii pics
often require the smallest size fonts for smooth appearance, small ascii pics
often require somewhat larger/medium size fonts, since it is the mere few
characters that makes the entire pic. I have repeatedly seen suggestions for a
point size 9 for large ascii pics, and I am merely suggesting a point size 12
for the small 'steins.

Perhaps a little discourse for the benefit of the Yangsteins.

The smallest font size for good legibility used to be point size 9 for a 14"
to 15" monitor at 600 x 800 resolution. Therefore, point size 9 used to be the
smallest font size generally available, which was the reason for recommending
it for large/larger ascii pics. 

These days, 19" to 21" monitors with 1200 x 1600 resolution are becoming
available, and point size 6 has about the same, good legibility and is
becoming available as well. However, as far as small ascii pics are concerned,
these two options are NOT the same:

1) point size 12 at a monitor resolution setting of 1200 x 1600
2) point size 6 at a monitor resolution setting of 600 x 800

The physical size of the characters on the screen are the same, but the
_shape_ of the characters on the screen are different, at least for all the
fixed-width fonts that I examined (Monaco, Courier, and Courier New
systematically, other fonts less systematically.) The 'steins look the best at
font size 12 regardless of monitor size or resolution, they look distorted at
font size 10 or 14, 16, 18, etc they look good at point size 9 but look
quite/too small for usual monitor size/resolution settings (such as 14" or 15"
monitor at 600 x 800 resolution.) 

This is the deeper reason for me to recommend a point size 12 for viewing the 'steins.

While I am at it, I did look at font effects on large/larger ascii pics. As
can be expected, the font effects are less pronounced, but not zero. For
example, large dragons keep their threatening overall posture regardless of
font, but their heads are necessarily smaller and there _are_ font effects.
One of the dragons that I looked at got a cute facial expression with a
certain font, quite a contradiction to the rest of the pic! (I can't recall
whose dragon it was, or what exact font it was, that was quite a while ago)
