Re: CAN'T PASTE!

A proportional font is a font where the letters are different widths. In
a proportional font, these two lines will not line up:

iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

In a fixed-width font, however, they will, effectively "decoding" ASCII
art.

Fixed width fonts date back from the days when computers couldn't do
anything better; i.e. MS-DOS. Pretty much the only reason they still
survive is ASCII art and cross-platform compatibility. (i.e. ASCII art
looks the same on a Mac as on a PC)
