You make the very valid point that public flamewars between
individuals is never entertaining for very long once the original
spectacle loses its novelty.

I will try to remember that although it is often difficult when
something apparently interminable starts appearing in a newsgroup
and nobody challenges it or calls a halt.

Historically, squabbles have always been a part of alt.ascii-art and
were prime causes of the move to create the moderated newsgroup
rec.arts.ascii...which didn't solve the problems either!
