I'm a little rusty in this region (pun intended), but vile implements
rectangles (as do elvis -- which did it first -- and vim).  I know you
can yank a rectangle with vile (I just did).

And there's a put (but it's more of an insert).  Perhaps Kevin Buettner
(who did most of it) will elaborate (he can probably do a real "put").
