There is one problem with this, and that is the fact that characters
(usually) are NOT square.  I have done some cross stitching before,
so I know what you are talking about.  Also, I think cross stitch
patterns would appear very large indeed on a screen.  The screen is
normally about 24 lines or so long, and about 80 columns.  If you
mashed the cross stitch down, so that two vertical squares are one
character, that's only a cross stitch 48 x 80 at the most (for one
screen size, that is.)  I don't think it would be impossible to do,
but I just thought I'd point out the difficulties that I see, in
