BANNER(1V) USER COMMANDS BANNER(1V)

NAME
banner - display a string in large letters

SYNOPSIS
     /usr/5bin/banner strings

AVAILABILITY
This command is available with the System V software instal-
lation option. Refer to Installing SunOS 4.1 for informa-
tion on how to install optional software.

DESCRIPTION
banner prints its arguments (each up to 10 characters long)
in large letters on the standard output.

SEE ALSO
     echo(1V)

BUGS
When banner is used with characters from the top half of the
Latin-1 character set (see iso_8859_1(7)), each character is
mapped to a best approximation for that character based on
the available ASCII character shapes (for example, diacriti-
     cal marks are removed).

And here's the letter 'i' from "banner":

Where "the rest of the night" means a part of the night, which could begin
at 05:00 and end an hour or two later...

I did! (well, more exactly I typed "backspace dot right right backspace
dot right right backspace dot...")

> surely you must have used cut and paste?

I tried "replace all" and ended up with dots in places where I didn't
want them...

Then I tried "picture mode" and got BAD tab damage... :( :( :(

A problem was that I wanted this pattern:

. . . . . .
 . . . . .
. . . . . .
 . . . . .
. . . . . .

and not this pattern:

. . . . . .
. . . . . .
. . . . . .
. . . . . .
. . . . . .

(see the difference?)

Your second sentence answers the first... :-/
