ASCII Fire

is an interactive ASCII animation that simulates flickering flames using nothing but characters. Watch heat rise, tongues of fire dance and curl, and glowing embers drift through the air as the fire breathes in rhythmic pulses.

Instruction

Fire Modes

Mode Description
Wall of FireFull-width fire spanning the entire bottom. Classic inferno look.
CampfireCentered fire source (30% width). Cozy, focused flames.
Torches3–4 evenly spaced torch flames. Medieval atmosphere.
Candles5–8 small, delicate flames. Calm, intimate lighting.

Controls

Control Description
IntensityHeat level of the fuel source. Higher values create taller, brighter flames.
WindHorizontal force pushing the flames. Negative values blow left, positive blow right.
DecayHow quickly flames cool as they rise. Lower values create taller flames.
TurbulenceRandom flickering intensity. Higher values create more chaotic, dancing flames.
ThicknessNumber of fuel rows at the bottom. More rows create a wider, more stable fire base.

Effects

Effect Description
EmbersSlow-floating particles that drift upward from the flames.
SparksQuick, bright particles that shoot up and fade rapidly.
PulseRhythmic breathing effect that modulates the fire intensity.

Visual Options

  • Palette: Color scheme for the flames (Classic, Blue, Lava, Matrix, or Mono)
  • Charset: ASCII characters used to render the fire
  • FPS: Animation speed (frames per second)
